Integrate flatware pouches into place settings
Every table decoration is individual, and has special features that are pleasing to the eye. Folding napkins for flatware, for example, is not commonplace, but is becoming increasingly so. Flatware pouches are ideal to present high-quality flatware hygienically and safely on a festively decorated table. The flatware is beautifully arranged inside the pouch. Depending on the type of table decoration, the folded napkin can also contain accessories such as a flower or a small figurine. You can find delightful porcelain figurines, and pendants, that make wonderful decorations for flatware pouches in the online store, in the section ‘other decorations.’
Alternatively, you can wrap your flatware with a spoon, fork and knife, and place it on the table as a pretty flatware roll. This is a simple and quick folding technique. To create an overall harmonious look, the napkins you use for folding and wrapping should match the other table decorations. If you are setting your festive table for Easter with high-quality tableware such as plates, bowls, cups and glasses from Villeroy & Boch, napkins with spring or Easter motifs are ideal. Neutral napkins are perfect for dinner with friends. And for Christmas dinner, present the flatware in Christmas napkins.
Pretty table runners, lamps and vases to match the occasion will enhance any table arrangement. These and other decorative items can be found in Villeroy & Boch collections in different sizes, shapes and colors.
Which side do you put the napkin on?
Of course, the napkin doesn't just serve a decorative purpose on the table. It should also be useful. It is usually placed on the place setting, i.e. the upper plate. However, this only applies before the food has been served. If the starter is already on the table when the guests arrive, the napkin is placed to the left of the flatware, or on the bread plate. During the meal, you should place the napkin on your lap. This protocol also applies to flatware rolls and flatware pouches.
