Ceramic sinks and food
A good combination
In addition to their origin and the way they are grown, our handling also influences the quality of fruit and vegetables. Vegetables that are cooked for too long not only lose their flavour, but also their vitamins. To ensure good quality and enjoyment, the ingredients should be fresh and handled with care at every stage of the process. As a state-of-the-art material, ceramic is odourless and tasteless. Vegetables such as onions and even garlic do not leave any odours on the surface and do not absorb any.
Tips for properly cleaning leaf lettuce, fruit and vegetables
The best way to spin salad
It is not necessary to wash each lettuce leaf individually under running water, as the large surface area can quickly lead to a loss of nutrients. It is sufficient to detach the individual lettuce leaves from the head of lettuce and wash them thoroughly as a whole in the bowl of the ceramic sink with plenty of water. Simply fill the basin with cold water and immerse the crunchy leaves in it. For most salads, one wash is sufficient. If the lettuce is very dirty, this process should be repeated 2-3 times until the water runs clear. In between, drain the lettuce in a sieve or spin it briefly. When washing, the leaves should remain intact and crisp. Never leave the leaves in the water for a long time, as this will cause them to wilt and lose their water-soluble ingredients.
Wash apples and pears lukewarm
The surface layer of waxed apples can be easily rubbed off with kitchen paper. However, despite all the care taken, there is one thing you should know: Pesticides bound under the skin, i.e. in the flesh, cannot be removed by washing. Organic products can be a healthy alternative.
Vegetable brushes and fruit washes
In carrots, 85 per cent of their healthy substances are found under the skin. The situation is similar for tomatoes, cucumbers and other types of fruit and vegetables. However, the rough surface should be thoroughly cleaned with a special vegetable brush. The skin of cucumbers in particular, which are not organic, is often heavily waxed. However, this layer can be easily and completely removed with a special fruit and vegetable detergent, which is available in health food stores and elsewhere. Stainless steel colanders are ideal for quick rinsing between meals and are practical when preparing and cooking. There is even an ideal helper for the simple removal of waste - waste trays, which are available to match certain models of ceramic sinks.
Mushroom brushes - gentle cleaning helpers
Wild mushrooms can be contaminated with heavy metals and radioactivity. When preparing them, it is essential to ensure that the plates and the so-called cap skin are thoroughly removed. With cultivated edible mushrooms, such as button mushrooms, it is sufficient to rub them with a brush - ideally a mushroom brush. It is less advisable to wash them with water, as otherwise they lose their typical flavour.
